Art with Friends proudly presents an unprecedented journey through the most talked-about European art exhibitions of 2023. As the year culminates, prepare to delve into the world of painting from the Renaissance to the twentieth century with a focus on celebrated and emerging women artists and novel curatorial approaches. Over the span of four immersive weeks, we’ll discover cutting-edge exhibitions from the Tate Modern to the Musée d'Orsay, experiencing art through a unique lens that sheds new light on curation. This novel course promises an exciting artistic exploration, featuring the following exhibitions: - Manet/Degas at Musée d'Orsay & The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Examine the rivalry and respect in the unfolding narratives of these titans of Impressionism, and their impact on contemporary visual culture. - Hilma af Klint & Piet Mondrian Forms of Life at Tate Modern: a visual dialogue between two pioneers who never met, yet whose objectives were profoundly aligned. The exhibition compares Hilma af Klint's spiritually-inspired abstract paintings with Piet Mondrian's journey from representational to abstract art, reflecting on their mutual endeavor to capture the essence of life's invisible dimensions. - Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise: The Final Months at Musée d’Orsay: Study the bold strokes of Van Gogh's ultimate creations, exploring the intense emotions and the vivid palette of his final days. - Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) at Musée d’Orsay: Honoring the bicentenary of Bonheur's birth, this retrospective at Musée d’Orsay celebrated her as a pioneer for women's emancipation and an animal enthusiast. - Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rule Breaker at the National Gallery of Art, Dublin: the first retrospective in over two decades of Lavinia Fontana's work, this exhibition emphasizes her role as a pioneering professional woman artist of the Renaissance. Her oeuvre challenged the norms and carved a space for women in the male-dominated art world of her time. Join us to discover the exhibitions that have captured the world's gaze in 2023. This course is designed not just to broaden your horizons on museum exhibitions but to transform the way you perceive them. Embark on this journey to enrich your cultural understanding, ignite intellectual curiosity, and uncover the latest developments in art history. This interactive month-long live course is taught by Lauren Jimerson, PhD.
