From 19th-century painters like Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent, who navigated coded visual languages, to 20th-century artists such as Charles Demuth, Marsden Hartley, and Florine Stettheimer, this course delves into how queer and trans identities have influenced artistic movements—often in ways that mainstream history has overlooked.
