Uncover the powerful and often overlooked contributions of queer and trans artists from 1930 to the present. This course explores how gender identity and sexuality have shaped modern and contemporary art, highlighting artists who defied norms and redefined culture. From Andy Warhol’s subversive pop aesthetics and Robert Rauschenberg’s intimate collaborations, to the bold activism of David Wojnarowicz, the haunting photography of Peter Hujar, and the sensual self-portraits of Catherine Opie, we trace how queer and trans artists have challenged dominant narratives and opened new visual worlds. We'll also examine the work of contemporary figures like Zanele Muholi, Mickalene Thomas, and Cassils, who continue to push boundaries…
