Abstract Art &
The Quest for Peace

Piet Mondrian Tableau

Discover how abstract art transcends linguistic and cultural barriers to evoke a universal sense of peace.

Delve into the fascinating intersection between abstract art and the profound theme of peace. We'll trace the evolution of abstraction as a powerful artistic language, spanning from the early 20th century to the present day, and explore how various artists have employed this form to articulate, explore, and promote peace.

In this seminar, we'll journey through the evolution of abstract art, discovering how it has been used as a peaceful counter-narrative against the backdrop of global turmoil and societal upheaval. We'll explore the works of seminal artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Hilma af Klint, and Anna-Eva Bergman, who laid the foundation for abstract art as a medium for spiritual harmony and universal balance.

We'll also explore the mid-20th century contributions of artists like Mark Rothko and Agnes Martin, whose emotive and minimalist works created spaces for contemplation and emotional resonance. Their art, often seen as a response to the turmoil of their times, offers insights into the pursuit of inner peace through abstraction.

Finally, the series will focus on contemporary practitioners like Julie Mehretu, Bracha Ettinger, Yaacov Agam, Sigalit Landau, and Michal Rovner. These artists continue to push the boundaries of abstract art, addressing themes of global interconnectedness, trauma healing, and ethical relationality. Their works highlight the ongoing relevance of abstract art as a dynamic and powerful medium for articulating and fostering peace today.
